Description:

During my Master’s program, I wrote a technical paper investigating the addition of side slots or ‘louvers’ to both rear end plates of a FASE vehicle. Aerodynamic analysis was investigated using Star CCM+ software.

The rear wind design for this project was based of previous work completed during my undergraduate studies at UBC. The impact of downforce, drag, vortex generation and above/below wing pressure uniformity was investigated. Meshing and physics parameters were discussed in depth for the entire wing simulation. Three design configurations were simulated at 50km/h and 80km/h, representative of speeds found in an FSAE endurance and acceleration events respectively. All configuration simulations showed conclusive force results, but proved that the rear wing performance could not be increased.
