Description:
The robotic platform "Ada" (pictured above) is used to perform high throughout laboratory experiments. It manipulated glass slides with a vacuum handler, and stored them in a vertical storage towers. Although a simple concept, this design required a number of mechanical features to work properly. I designed and manufactured these towers to work within the accuracy and precision of the robotic arm. Each individual tray had a tapered opening (to accept slides which may become misaligned during a workflow) and a front lip to stop slides from moving due to platform vibration. I discussed CNC manufacturing setup steps with a technician before submitting final drawings.
