Description:
I held the position of design engineer at the University's Structured Surface Physics lab. My main project was designing a solar canopy; a device that mounts to the side of a building, and tracks the sun with an array of mirrors. These mirrors reflect light into a series of fresnel & tubular lenses which condense light, before channeling it into a building. The goal was to be able to illuminate the interior of a building with natural overhead light, saving on energy cost and promoting a healthier ambient setting (incandescent and fluorescent light sources can have negative effects on the naked eye). I went through the full design phase from concept, model scale, validation, through to full scale testing. All designs, GD&T drawings, and animations were completed in SolidWorks, and I was responsible for all model / full scale production.
